Haym Salomon

The Library of American Lives and Times

A great financier, philanthropist, and linguist, Haym Salomon arrived in New York from Europe when the colonies were on the brink of revolution. The freedom he cherished in his adopted homeland inspired him to join the Sons of Liberty. Salomon saw to it that the Continental army was fed, clothed, and paid by raising funds and donating much of his own money to the patriot cause.
