The Gila Monster

One of the world's few poisonous lizards, the Gila monster is named for Arizona's Gila River. Once the lizard's venom has dripped from its grooved teeth into prey, death is imminent. Though a Gila bite is rarely deadly to a human, the bite is very painful. The Gila is the largest lizard native to the United States.
